Sex and Marriage Survey

While I was sitting here and pondering what to post next, I began to wonder how many people have encountered sexual issues in their marriage due to the religious teachings of one of the spouses. We often don't talk about sexual issues with other people, so I'm just curious if anyone wants to comment about their own situation or perhaps someone you knew.

Any comments or thoughts?

I'm not sure what you are getting at. Sexual issues due to religious teachings... are you asking if spouses are "reserved" because of religious teachings? I will take it this way...

No, not in my case. I'm guessing my wife's view is sex was probably not influenced either way by her parents. My wife's view of sex was mostly formed by me. (I'm lucky!)

It would be interesting to know if (mostly) women's reservations are due to religious training. I do a ton of pre-marital counseling (I pastor a church that has about 200 college students a weekend). I have found that VERY few people have objections to doing things (ex. oral sex) because of religious teachings. The people who I have met who struggle with it (usually women) just don't want to do it.

is this what you are getting at?

Paul, thanks for posting and I don't know what happened to cause the duplicates.

Yes, I was curious if spouses were reserved, prude, or reluctant because of influences from either the Church or parents.

20-30 years ago in the bible belt, it was considered inappropriate for boys and girls to swim together in the same pool or lake. It was inappropriate for women to wear pants. Dancing was condemned...which I believe was the basis for the movie Dirty Dancing.

There was a powerful conservative movement that swept across the country in the 1970s and I wonder how much that influenced certain people. Perhaps it depends on your location, your family, and what types of church (if any) you went to?

This is paul and then sam
Sex was not thought when I was in Ohio. My wife at the time, because of religious training did not know the first thing, why was I moving after inserting. Sorry to be so blunt. I on the other hand did not know to much more.
Because of religious teaching my mother would NEVER - NEVER would do oral sex with my dad.
Sam - what you said about dancing is so true, the funning side is when I got married in 1969, I could not have danced at my wedding because of the church (Ohio). My father in law would not aloue it, end of story.
My son got married about three years ago, who is dancing, my father in law. Along with his three daughters. I should say ex wife and ex father in law.
Sam Dirty Danceing had very little to do with it the 1940s when the Ohio churchs said movies, danceing were wrong.
